AMAZING FACTS ABOUT WARREN BUFFETT



Born Warren Edward Buffett in 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. The second of three children and the only son of congressman Howard Buffet, and wife Leila. Buffet began his education at Rose Hill Elementary School. In 1942, his father was elected to the first of four terms in the United States Congress, which led to the relocation of the whole family to Washington, D.C. Warren finished elementary school, attended junior high school in Alice Deal Junior High School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947, where his senior yearbook picture reads: "likes maths: a future stockbroker".

As a child, Warren displayed an interest in making and saving money by selling chewing gum, coca-cola, or weekly magazines door to door, He also worked in his grandfather's grocery store. While still in high school he made money delivering newspapers, selling golf balls and stamps and detailing cars, among other means. As a high school student in 1945, Warren and his friend spent $25.00 to purchase a used pinball machine, which was placed in a local barber shop. Within months, they had made enough money from the machine that they owned several machines in different barber shops.


As 11, he bought three shares of Cities Service Preferred at $38.00 per share. The stock quickly dropped to $27.00, but Warren held on until they reached $40.00 before he sold it off. But regretted his decision when Cities Service shot up to nearly $200.00 a share, which he later cited as a lesson in patience in investing. In high School, he invested in a business owned by his father and bought a farm managed by a tenant farmer.

In 1947, Warren entered the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He then transferred to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he graduated at nineteen, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration after two years at University of Pennsylvania. After being rejected by Harvard Business School, Warren enrolled at Columbia Business School. In 1951, He earned a Master of Science in Economics form Columbia. Warren also attended the New York Institute of Finance.

By 1950, at 20 years, Warren had made and saved $9,800.00 (which is over $96,000.00 inflation adjusted for the 2014 U.D Dollars).

In 1999, Warren was named the top money manager of the Twentieth Century in a survey by the Carson Group, ahead of Peter Lynch and John Templeton. In 2007, he was listed among Time's 100 Most Influential People in the world. In 2011, President Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Most recently, Warren along with Bill Gates, was named the Most Influential Global Thinker in Foreign Policy's 2010 report.
